About me

Lucia Diez CelloMy name is Lucia Diez and I am a cello teacher based in Madrid, Spain.

I am passionate about teaching and, the more I learn about education, the greater the deep gratitude I feel toward the teachers who have accompanied me over the years:

Thus, I owe my knowledge of the instrument to Marina Kolesnikova, who during my student years at the Jesús de Monasterio Conservatory in Santander, taught me the importance of discipline, perseverance, and faith to achieve the goals set. At the Conservatory of Oviedo, it was Viguen Sarkisov who guided me to a greater understanding of the cello and its possibilities and helped me to find my sound and to communicate through it. Later, in Madrid, it was Álvaro Huertas who showed me that music was a language with which to express myself and enjoy.

In 2014, after several years of working as a teacher, and having attended different courses in instrumental pedagogy, I began training in the Suzuki Method by chance. I never imagined that the Suzuki Method would revolutionize my way of teaching and my understanding of education as it has done. After years of intense training, now with Level 5, I can say that embarking on this path has made me improve not only as a teacher but also as a musician and as a person.

Thanks to my training teachers, Eulàlia Subirà and Arantza López, who have helped and taught me so much in recent years and have shown me the importance of listening, demanding standards, and enjoyment in learning. It has also been a privilege to have the teachings of Carey Beth Hockett, Chantal Latil, Tessa Oklay, Ruben Rivera, Anja Maja, among others, from whom I undoubtedly continue to learn.

Over the past few years, I have been invited to teach classes in Barcelona, Santander, Alicante, Madrid (VII National Suzuki Course), Valencia (Summer Courses Volestiu 2021, 2022 and 2023), England (National Suzuki Workshop organized by the BSMA in 2020, Cellofest International Cello Summer School 2022 and 2023) and France (Kortjakje Summer Course 2023).

My teaching is built on values such as respect, camaraderie, and cooperation. I believe in diverse abilities and greatly enjoy the learning journey alongside my students and their families.

“If a musician wants to become a fine artist, they must first become a finer person.”
